The pursuit of dynamic and friendly styling with a youthful vibe together with efficient packaging.

Front view

The short overhang suggests a compact car which is fun and stylish.

Headlamp - Polypropylene headlights are strong and durable and have been designed to shine further than conventional headlights.

Bumper - Fully integrated and colour coded, emphasising the Charade’s solid appeal.

13-inch full wheel - (145/80 R13 4J) A strong, sculpture-like 7-spoke design.

14-inch alloy wheel - (165/60 R14 4½J) A clean and elegant 12-spoke design.

Side view

The new Charade is stylish and practical, the short nose improves handling and aids occupant’s
field of vision. The long cabin ensures passenger space.

Outer mirror - The aerodynamic outer mirror is colour coded.

Rear view

Rear combination lamp - A large sized rear combination lamp is positioned on the corners, facilitating a wide boot.

Interior design

High quality interior that expresses a “spacious” and “youthful” feel.

Instrument panel - An angular dashboard extends all the way to the door panel on either side. The entire dashboard has been ergonomically designed with ease of use in mind.
Steering wheel - A newly designed 3-spoke configuration is adopted.
Meter - Electronic fuel gauge and trip clock.
Front seat - Bucket type seat offers extra comfort and support.
Rear seat - Fixed rear seats with head rests. Biggest rear space available.

Seat functions

Seat height adjuster – Celeb
A seat height adjuster that allows the adjusting of the entire seat is available for the driver’s seat.
Rear seat - The bench type seat folds flat for increased loading capacity. Despite the compact body size, efficient space utilisation is realised and usability is enhanced. The rear seat is ISO Fix compatible.
Child seat restraint anchorage - A child seat with restraint anchorages that is compatible with the internationally standard ISO is adopted. Allowing safer and easier baby seat fixing.

Audio unit – Celeb:
Flush-surface audio is adopted.
Tilt steering column - Celeb
Heater control panel - A dial-type heater control panel is adopted.
Inside door handle – Celeb:
A chrome plated inside door handle is available.
Shift knob for manual transmission - Ergonomically designed gear knob, for comfortable feel.

Colour concept - A vibrant selection of colours that complements the design and enhances the Charade’s aesthetic appeal.

Packaging - Major dimensions

Highly efficient packaging is realised under the keyword of “Small but Spacious”. The already well received significant interior space of the current model has further evolved through the realisation of an “Innovative package” with a short overhang/long wheelbase compact body.

Dimension Comparison

Large interior space despite the short overall length and interior comfort that goes toe-to-toe with superior class vehicles is realised by further evolving the well received interior space of the current model.

Easy accessibility

Comfortable entry and exit is realised by increasing the maximum door opening angle. In addition, two door stop hold positions before the maximum door opening have been modified for enhanced usability. Also, the shape of the front seat rocker area has been changed and the rear seat floor tunnel height has been reduced to contribute to easy vehicle entry and exit.

Door opening angle - The angle of the maximum door opening angle has been enlarged to approximately 90 degrees.
Front seat rocker area shape - A shape with good foot space characteristics during entry or exit is adopted.
Rear seat floor shape - The reduction of rear floor tunnel height has resulted in the realisation of ample rear seat foot space.

Luggage compartment usability

Fixed rear seat - Luggage compartment floor length is 470 mm. Able to store two mineral water cases in a crosswise direction.

Engine

Top class fuel efficiency and low emissions for a petrol engine vehicle and fundamental performance that goes toe-to-toe with superior class vehicles is pursued.

Engine performance curve - The adoption of the DVVT mechanism and the optimization of the intake port inside the cylinder head allow the enhancement of output and torque in all ranges.
1KR-FE Engine - An inline-3,1.0-litre 1KR-FE petrol engine with DVVT (Dynamic Variable Valve Timing) that achieves significant fuel efficiency, despite the improved torque and output in all ranges, is adopted.

Emission Control

Intelligent Catalyst - The Daihatsu exclusive Intelligent Catalyst, which realises constantly fresh catalyst activity and suppresses catalyst age deterioration by regenerating the metals used for the catalyst inside the exhaust gas. The realisation of excellent long-term exhaust gas purification performance not only suppresses environmental pollution, but also significantly reduces the amount of used precious metal, thus realising excellent resource saving.
Perovskite-type oxide - [Intelligent performance – Self regeneration function] (Taking advantage of inherent fluctuation redox atmosphere)
The effects of regeneration - The regenerating ability of the Intelligent Catalyst enables a significant improvement in heat resistance of the palladium used, and superior purification activity and durability compared to existing catalysts. In addition, the amount of total use for other precious metals including platinum and rhodium is also greatly reduced.

Suspension

The new Charade offers a stable and comfortable ride due to the improved tuning of the spring rate and damping force.

Front suspension - A MacPherson strut suspension with coil springs is adopted.
Rear suspension - A torsion beam rear suspension with coil springs is adopted.

Collision safety

In addition to the thorough pursuit of active safety, which prevents accidents from happening, passive safety has also been pursued for thorough collision safety performance in the unlikely event of a collision.

Impact energy pathway -
Omni-direction compatibility - An omni-directionally compatible body structure with a brand new platform is adopted in order to ensure efficient impact absorption during frontal, side and rear collisions.
Impact absorption structure - A body structure that efficiently absorbs and spreads impact energy and a body framework with high rigidity both suppress cabin deformation and ensure occupant survival space.
Frontal collision - Frontal impact energy is efficiently transmitted and spread through the straight shaped front side members and floor tunnels. In addition, high tensile strength sheets are adopted for the front pillars and roof side pillars to suppress cabin deformation.
Side collision - Side impact energy is efficiently transmitted and spread through the straight shaped rear floor cross members. In addition, the front door inside impact beams are overlapped by the centre pillars in order for the body to efficiently absorb and spread impact, and high tensile steel sheets are adopted for a high level of door strength.
Rear collision - Rear impact energy is transmitted and spread to the under-floor panel to suppress cabin deformation.

Brake control device

ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is available in order to prevent accidents and help ensure further safety.

Brake mechanism

Front brake - The Charade is equipped with 12-inch solid disc brakes for excellent braking force.
Rear brake - The rear brakes are leading trailing type drum brakes with a diameter of 165 mm.

Passenger protection measures

Safety performance is thoroughly pursued with the full enhancement of equipment for above-class fundamental performance in order to reduce occupant injuries.

SRS airbags - Celeb:
SRS airbags are available to ease impact to occupants in the unlikely event of a collision.
Seatbelts - Lap-outer pre-tensioner mechanism. An additional mechanism is added to the lap belt to complement the existing function for excellent occupant restraining during collision. Pre-tensioner pulls occupant into chair and force limiter prevents seatbelt injury.

Head impact protection

Impact absorption material - Rib structured resin is adopted inside each pillar garnish in order to ease impact to occupant heads in the case of secondary collision with interior parts.
Together with the brake pedal intrusion preventing mechanism, lower leg injury reducing pads are adopted for the front floor panel to ease impact to occupant lower body parts.

Storage space

Objects of many different sizes can be stored efficiently as various types of storage space with excellent usability and convenience are available.

Ticket holder - A ticket holder is available at the driver seat sun visor to realise excellent user convenience.
Cup holder - Two cup holders, able to accommodate various object sizes, as full consideration was given to usability, are adopted for the front console and one is adopted for rear console.
Example: 500 ml plastic bottles, L-size cups, ashtrays.
Instrument panel centre box - An upper/lower split configuration to realise storage for various types of object size. Lids are also adopted for visual quality.
Example: cigarettes.
Instrument panel lower pocket - Excellent removing characteristics are realised by adopting a large open-type.
Shopping hook - Shopping hooks with excellent usability and convenience are adopted to the side of the glove box.
Glove box - Full A4 glove box.
1 DIN box - Consideration is given to small object storage as a 1 DIN box has been made available when without audio units.
Front door pocket - A front door pocket able to store maps and other various items is available.
Rear door pocket & bottle holder - Items including a 500 ml plastic bottle and a bag of snacks can be simultaneously stored for enhanced convenience.
Package tray - A package tray that prevents outsiders from peeping and can have small items placed on is available.

Audio system

A flush-surface audio unit with an exclusively developed face panel is adopted to complement the trendy and high quality feel generating instrument panel. In addition, CD player, RDS (Radio Data System) compatibility is adopted in consideration for functionality.
Flush-surface audio unit - In addition to the equipped AM/FM (Radio Data System compatible)/CD, amber colour night time illumination is adopted.

Smart start system

A “Smart start system” that automatically operates an automobile self-starter for the engine is adopted for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. This system helps the driver with engine startup as the need to hold the ignition switch at the “START” position is eliminated.

Other equipment

Room lamp - A room lamp integrated with the inner mirror is available.

Vanity mirror - Celeb: A vanity mirror is available for the sun visors of the driver seat and front passenger seat.

Power door lock - Celeb: Power door locking is available for the driver seat door lock and central door lock.

Power window - Celeb: Power windows are available with a one-touch automatic sliding down function adopted for the driver seat. In addition, amber colour is adopted for the illumination of the power window switch.

Rear wiper - Celeb: A rear wiper with intermittent operation is standard on Celeb.

Quality - Noise and vibration measures

A power plant that reduces gear noise and vibration, a body structure that suppresses noise and vibration, and a flush surface body that reduces wind roar are adopted as the three main items to directly reduce noise and vibration from their roots, thus resulting in NV (Noise and Vibration) performance nearly on par with superior class models.

Reduction of power plant vibration - Together with the enhancement of the engine and transmission coupling rigidity, 2-point engine mounts (with torque rods) are adopted to reduce vibration from the root.
Reduction of body noise and vibration - Curved beads are adopted for the front floor panel to reduce vibration, and sound insulation material is efficiently positioned to ensure a high level of quietness.

A dash cross member is available for the dash panel to reduce vibration and items including inner silencers are adopted to reduce interior noise intrusion and ensure a high level of quietness.
