1. How does the difflock button on the Terios work?

The 4x4 Terios is fitted with an electronic central diff lock.  This ensures the power is split between the front and rear drive wheels evenly i.e. 50% each.  When you find yourself in tough offroad conditions, with the vehicle stopped, just press the button, see the light on the dashboard come on telling you that the central difflock is engaged and you can take on any obstacles with confidence.  The difflock is actually a clutch type difflock which mechanically engages once the button on the dashboard is pressed.

2. Is the CO2 emissions legislated in South Africa and if so, how does the Daihatsu product compare?

In South Africa all vehicles must now display their fuel consumption and CO2 emissions on the windshield.  Although at the moment there is no penalty for performing poorly in these, overseas there are various taxes to encourage greener (more eco friendly) driving.  The Daihatsu Charade has won 5 of the last 6 total economy runs for fuel economy, and emits a whisper of CO2 (just 120g CO2/km).  In fact part of the design philosophy of the Toyota owned Daihatsu, is minimal impact on the environment and Daihatsu delivers on this.  Compare the stickers and see how well Daihatsu does, save the environment, drive a Daihatsu.

3. Is it possible to improve the ground clearance on the Terios?

The Daihatsu Terios has the best ground clearance for a SUV under R 450 000.  It is already an excellent 205mm, compare it and you will see how good this is.  However, should your plans include serious mountain climbing then there are approved accessories which increase this mighty clearance to 255 mm, more than enough to tackle the toughest obstacle.  One of the models in the Terios range, the Terios OffRoad has this improved ground clearance as standard.

4. How is it possible to have so much interior space on a compact vehicle?

Throughout the Japanese designed and engineered Daihatsu range a cornerstone of the design philosophy is the practical use of space.  To achieve this goal, the wheels are set at the corners of the vehicle, the pillars at convenient positions (just get into the back seat and you will notice how easy entry and exit is on any of our cars) and the stance upright. What this means is the most interior space for any vehicle this size.  It also means that road handling is better and visibility is excellent.  Come in and get into a Daihatsu today and be amazed.

5. I believe the Charade is a multiple fuel-economy-run winner.  What does Daihatsu do differently to make their product range so fuel efficient?

The charade is a multiple total economy run winner, 5 out of the last 6 in fact.  How do they do it:

  1. Not only are the materials used in Daihatsu recycled, but they are also chosen for their light weight and high strength
  2. The Japanese Daihatsu also uses the latest in engine technology including
    • Single coil per cylinder
    • Plastic-polymer intake manifold
    • DVVT
    • Fuel Injection
    • Aluminum engine blocks
  3. Daihatsu engineers also work tirelessly to remove unnecessary weight form the vehicles in the design stage further keeping vehicle weight under control

6. What is the Euro-Ncap Safety Rating on the Daihatsu range?

Daihatsus are sold in Europe which means that they have been Euro NCAP tested.  We achieve 4 star rating for all the tested vehicles, a fantastic achievement for compact cars.  In every Daihatsu particular focus is given to the passive safety features of the vehicle, that means that the car itself does the protecting through honeycomb structures near occupants, impact absorbing zones, crumple zones.  These passive safety features complement the active safety measures like ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Airbags which are also on Daihatsus.

7. I believe the Daihatsu warranty claim rate is the lowest in the world?  What makes the Daihatsu range so reliable?

Daihatsu, as a part of Toyota, is focused on reliability as their primary concern for their vehicles.  Daihatsu has won several awards both for reliability from JDPowers and Design from the German design institutions and is the top seller in Japan.  The technologies in every Daihatsu is the highest level available in Japanese vehicles and are our guarantee of design and quality.

8. Is the vehicle fully imported, or do you have a factory in South Africa?

Every Daihatsu is fully imported and every Daihatsu is designed and engineered in Japan.  Daihatsu is a Japanese company and all the Terios, Sirion, Charade, Materia and Deltas are built in Japan.  Internationally Daihatsu has over 10 plants around the world, but here in South Africa we only source Terios Long from a non Japanese plant located in Indonesia but still controlled by our Japanese manufacturer.  Components are also sourced from Japan, this means that the parts are also original manufacturer equipment, a guarantee of reliability and quality and all engineered to the highest standards.

9. Is parts freely available in South Africa, or is there long waiting periods for Parts?

Imperial Daihatsu has over 6000m2 of parts warehouse in South Africa and boasts the ability to supply 94% of any parts immediately.  Despite the fact that every part is genuine and fully imported from Japan, Daihatsu is confident to say that parts are both available and reasonably priced.  Check out our performance in the annual Kinsey report.  Insert article ref here.

10. The Charades engine has won numerous awards – which other manufactures make uses of our technology?

The Daihatsu designed and built engine found in the Charade is also used in the Toyota Aygo, the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 107.  Similarly the Sirion 1.3 powerplant runs the Toyota Yaris and the Sirion 1.5 engine runs the Toyota Avenza.  The sharing of powerplants is common from Daihatsu and Toyota as evidenced by the Daihatsu Delta running the Toyota engine and gearbox.  Daihatsu and Toyota share extensive technology in Japan as Daihatsu Japan is partly owned by Toyota Japan.

11. Is the Terios the best in fuel consumption in its vehicle category?

Yes the Daihatsu Terios, which shares the extremely reliable and high technology Japanese designed engine as in the Daihatsu Materia and Sirion and Toyota Avenza, is very fuel efficient.  In fact the fuel economy that you can expect out of the Terios is more carlike than SUV.  A fuel consumption figure of just 8.5l/100km for the manual and 8.8 l /100km for the A/T is complemented by the CO2 figures of just ?? and ??.  This means that not only is the purchase price easy on your wallet but the running costs and fuel bills will be similarly easy on you.  So go outdoors now in the Terios and know that you are in economical yet capable SUV.

12. Can the Terios do the Mozambique dune rides?

Sand is a speciality area of the Terios.  Combine an exceptional low boy weight achieved by use of strong and light composite materials when bui.ding as well as exceptional award wining design elements, with a high torque petrol engine, short overhangs, and good ground clearance  and you have a vehicle which will outperform on dune rides.  Sandy conditions penalise heavy vehicles and those with large overhangs as they tend to dig into the dunes and scratch bumpers front and rear.  Not son in the Terios.  As evidenced by the article (ef article here) even outright amateurs will take the Terios on extensive dune trips in Mozambique with no concerns. Daihatsu is also renowned for its reliability, a must when considering tackling outdoor spots especially rough ones.  Click here for photos of the Trip and other dune trips with the terios.

13. Is the 4x4 permanent 4x4. If so how does it affect the fuel consumption.

The Terios 4x4 is a permanent 4x4.  This means that at all times the added safety and control from having all four wheels driving the vehicle is apparent to a driver.  On the 4x4 erios there is an electronic centre diff lock (clutch type), which is only ofr se offroad.  This feature locks the front and rear dirveshafts to ensure that the power split is even.  The incremental fuel consumption on the Terios vs the 4x2 is a meagre 1 l/100 km and the total fuel consumption is just 8.8l/100km.
